Snuneymuxw First Nation is welcoming a new organization to its lands.
Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services Society, which serves nine First Nations from Malahat to Qualicum, held groundbreaking ceremonies for its new office building at SFN’s Number 1 reserve.
The two-storey building will be the first permanent facility for Kw’umut Lelum since it was founded in 1994. Its first years were spent in an old band office at Shell Beach at Chemainus First Nation. Over the past six years, staff worked out of portable accommodations at Halalt First Nation.
Bill Yoachim, executive director of Kw’umut Lelum, said: “We realized that permanent modern offices in a central location were necessary to carry out the many programs and services for all of our communities.”
