The Eagle has landed
Karl Morgan’s art was much in evidence on April 3.
His Eagle logo, commissioned by TFN chief and council, was on blankets, vests, jackets, t-shirts, lapel pins and on the huge backdrop to the stage in the longhouse.
The resident artist also created three contemporary house posts containing elements important to the community such as twin eagles, salmon and killer whales. They were among the gifts exchanged with Canada and BC for the occasion.
Before the treaty signing in 2008, Premier Gordon Campbell commissioned Morgan to create a door which he presented to TFN. The houseposts were the response to that gift.
Morgan’s work is also prominent at the nearby Town Centre Mall in the town of Tsawwassen. Its centerpiece is his carving Returning Sockeye.
